2026 Blood Product Ordering Policy

Ordering Out-of-Stock Items

At the GHI Blood Bank, our mission is simple but urgent: to save as many lives as possible. Every unit of blood we collect from our volunteer canine donors is precious, and we are committed to distributing it responsibly, equitably, and efficiently.

We’ve realized our previous ordering guidelines were confusing, so we’re simplifying them to make things clearer and easier.  Here is a summary of the new policy.

📦 Order Limits: Maximum of 4 total bags of any size per order with a limit of 2 total orders for Negative PRBCS or other out-of-stock items.
🟢 IN-STOCK Items: No limits on in-stock items.
📅 Order Window: Orders may be placed up to 6 months in advance (order limit still applies to out-of-stock items).
Lead Times: Join our Lead Times Email List to get the most current lead times
🚫 New Purchasers: We are not accepting new purchasers for negative prbcs at this time to help keep our current wait times more reasonable.
Positive Blood Type: Ordering positive‐type blood will reduce wait times significantly
🔄 Allow substitutions for ordering Large or Medium units to help get the product faster.

These guidelines allow us to work more closely with our existing partners to ensure timely access to blood products while minimizing overstock and expiration. By ordering within these parameters, you’re helping us preserve donor health, eliminate waste, and prioritize urgent veterinary needs. We understand that these changes may require adjustments, and we’re here to support you. If you have questions or need help planning your orders, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for being part of this lifesaving mission.
