Help Advance Heart Health in Sighthounds: Join the Borzoi Genetics Study

Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is conducting a study on the genetics of inherited heart disease in Borzoi and other sighthound breeds. This research aims to uncover genetic mutations linked to conditions like arrhythmias and dilated cardiomyopathy, which have been associated with sudden, unexplained deaths in Borzoi dogs.

📋 Who Can Participate?

  • Any sighthound breed
  • All ages and sexes welcome
  • Must provide veterinary records (OFA and Holter forms if available)

🧬 What’s Involved?

  • Saliva sample collection from both healthy and affected dogs
  • DNA extraction and genomic sequencing
  • Comparison of genetic variants between healthy and affected dogs

💌 Cost & Compensation

  • Participation is free
  • No direct compensation, but participants may access the published study
