Now Hiring for our Blood Bank

Join Our Team: Become a Lifesaver at the GHI Canine Blood Bank
If you’ve ever wanted a career where you can truly make a difference, this is your moment.
The GHI Blood Bank, a non‑profit canine blood bank based in Central Ohio, is looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate team member who believes in our mission of saving canine lives. Every donation we collect can save up to four dogs, and our technicians are the heart of that impact.
We’re searching for a Blood Bank Technician who is excited to work hands‑on with dogs, support our donor families, and help grow our lifesaving program through community outreach and education.
What Does a Blood Bank Technician Do?
This role blends technical skill, patient care, public interaction, and mission-driven work. As a technician, you will:
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect, label, and prepare blood, plasma, and other components for transfusion and sale.
- Properly store blood products and maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Work directly with canine patients—keeping them comfortable, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring a positive donation experience.
- Collect, prepare, and run laboratory samples using IDEXX diagnostic machines.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and safety protocols.
- Prepare invoices and blood products for shipment.
- Volunteer and work at special events to recruit new canine blood donors and support fundraising efforts.
- Travel to our off‑site donation locations in Canal Winchester and Delaware.
Qualifications We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is both technically capable and deeply compassionate. Ideal candidates will have:
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs multiple times during donation days.
- Availability on Sundays and/or Tuesdays (both preferred).
- Willingness to volunteer at weekend fundraising and donor‑recruitment events.
- Ability to travel to our satellite locations around Columbus.
- Strong technical experience, including canine restraint and willingness to learn blood collection.
- Prior experience drawing blood is required to learn blood collection.
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision.
- Strong command of written and spoken English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills—both online and in person.
- Strong organizational habits and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, or similar).
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and emotional steadiness in challenging situations.
- Genuine empathy and compassion for animals and their families.
Preferred Experience
- RVT, Veterinary Assistant, Kennel Technician or similar background.
Why This Job Matters
This is more than a part‑time role—it’s a chance to be part of something meaningful.
Our team members go home each day knowing they helped save lives. Every successful donation can help up to four dogs in need, and you’ll be directly involved in making that possible.
Pay is based on experience, and the real reward is the impact you’ll make on the canine community.
Important Note About Training
Because of the specialized nature of this work and our once‑weekly donation schedule, training can take six months or more.
If you are seeking a short‑term or temporary position, this role will not be a good fit.
